Your First Massage at Lotus Massage & Rehabilitation: What to Expect
Booking your first massage can feel a little daunting if you don't know what to expect. What do you wear? What do you say? Will it hurt? We hear these questions all the time at Lotus Massage & Rehabilitation in Boca Raton — and we want you to feel completely comfortable from the moment you walk through the door. Here's a step-by-step walkthrough of what your first visit looks like.
Before Your Appointment
A few things to do in advance:
• Book online or call us at (561) 888-9113
• Arrive 5 minutes early (if you haven't already completed your short health intake form online).
• Stay hydrated — drink plenty of water the day before and the day of
• Avoid eating a heavy meal in the 1–2 hours before your session
• Wear comfortable clothes or know that you'll be undressing to your comfort level (more on this below)
• Let us know about any injuries, medical conditions, or recent surgeries when you book.
When You Arrive
Our studio at 11230 Sea Grass Circle in Boca Raton is designed to feel like a calm oasis. You'll be greeted warmly. Discuss overview of your intake form -This helps us understand:
• Any areas of pain or tension you want us to focus on
• Health conditions or contraindications we should know about
• Your goals for the session (relaxation, pain relief, injury recovery, etc.)
The Consultation
Before we start, your therapist will sit with you for a brief conversation. This is your chance to share anything relevant — a recent injury, a surgery, stress in your neck and shoulders, whatever brought you in. We use this to customize your treatment plan specifically for you. No two sessions are identical.
During the Session
You'll be guided to a private, comfortable treatment room. We'll step out while you undress to your comfort level and lie on the table under a sheet or towel. You are always draped — only the area being worked on is ever uncovered.During the massage, your therapist will check in with you about pressure. Don't hesitate to speak up if something is too much or not enough — this is your session. Many clients close their eyes and drift into a deeply relaxed state. Some even fall asleep, which is perfectly normal!Depending on your goals, your session might include Swedish techniques for relaxation, deeper pressure for tension or knots, stretching for range of motion, or specialized techniques for specific conditions.
After Your Session
Take your time getting up — sit up slowly to avoid lightheadedness. Your therapist will share any observations and recommendations (stretches to do at home, how often to come in, etc.).Plan to drink extra water after your massage to help your body flush out the metabolic waste that gets released from muscles during treatment. You may feel slightly sore the next day if deeper work was done — this is normal and passes within 24–48 hours.
